Hi Aavya. On Sankranti the whole sky was full of kites. Aavya's red kite flew high, then dipped, and got caught in the neem tree. Aavya pulled the string hard. Tug, tug. Nothing. Aavya wanted to pull even harder. Then Dadaji pointed. A little sparrow sat on the branch, right next to the string. Why stop? Because a string pulled tight can cut a bird's wing. Aavya let the string go loose. Dadaji took a long bamboo stick and gently lifted the string off the branch. The sparrow flew away safely, and the kite slid down into Aavya's hands, a little torn. Dadaji said, next time, plain cotton thread, not the sharp glass kind. Then they ate sesame laddoos on the roof. Aavya, a kite can wait. A bird's wing cannot be fixed so easily.
