Hi Aavya. On Dussehra evening the ground was full of people. In the middle stood a giant Ravan made of paper and bamboo, as tall as a house. Ram came onto a little stage and lifted his bow. Then came the crackle and the boom. Aavya pressed both hands over both ears and hid behind Papa's leg. Everyone is laughing, Aavya thought, so why am I scared? Papa bent down. Shall we watch from the back, near the trees? They walked back, holding hands. From far away the fire looked like a big orange flower, and the boom was only a small pop. Papa said, Ram won because he did not give up, even when it was hard. And you stayed. Aavya, being brave does not mean you are never scared. It means you hold a hand and stay.
